About me

My name is Jeremy D. Frens.

My life can be split into two parts: software development and academia.

Second Life as a Software Developer

Since 2010 I’ve been working as a software developer. My first developer job was at Centro (now Basis Technologies). We wrote software that made it easier to sell, buy, and negotiate online advertising campaigns. I wrote a lot of code for the Finance department. I wrote a lot of Ruby code.

In 2018 I got a job with Citybase, a payments company for utilities and governments. Citybase is now Euna Payments in Euna Solutions. I write a lot of Elixir code now, and I love it.

First Life as an Academic

Before 2010, I was in school. First as a student, and then as a professor. I used to teach in the Computer Science department at Calvin College (now Calvin University), a small liberal arts college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Before that, I taught at Northwestern College, another small liberal arts college, in Orange City, Iowa. Before that, I earned a Ph.D. in computer science (surprise!) from Indiana University.
